Patty Skinkis, Oregon State University

Dr. Patty Skinkis is the Viticulture Extension Specialist and Associate Professor at Oregon State University. Through her Extension program, she develops various programs to meet the needs of the statewide wine grape industry in Oregon. Patty has a Ph.D. in Horticulture (viticulture) from Purdue University and a B.S. in Horticulture from University of Wisconsin-River Falls. She uses her combined knowledge of horticultural systems, viticulture, and plant physiology, to design and conduct applied research projects that have impact for the Oregon winegrape industry. The main focus of her research is on applications of canopy management practices and influences on vine balance, health, and fruit and wine quality. Patty enjoys working directly with industry and has developed research projects that span beyond small-scale projects and seek to engage viticulturists and winemakers directly in addressing critical issues such as vine balance and yield management. Patty also teaches viticulture courses in the Viticulture & Enology B.S. degree program at Oregon State University, and seeks to provide educational opportunities to all levels of individuals within the viticulture and enology profession, from college students to seasoned veteran.
